Dartmoor
Holsome Park looks towards Dartmoor, an expansive wilderness with craggy peaks. The large hills, or Tors, are where the granite bedrock is exposed. The highest point is High Willhays at 621 m.
Dartmoor is a favourite for those who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting, climbing kayaing and other adventure sports.
There are almost 450 miles (720 km) of footpaths and bridleways on Dartmoor, but they are for guidance and convenience as they do not have to be kept to, and in fact footpaths in these sections of the Park are generally not waymarked. There are many bronze ages remains on Dartmoor including standing stones and stone circles.
Wild ponies running in herds across the moors are not an uncommon site.
